A Joy Recipe - A Practical guide to finding True Happiness in your Life

The Inspiration

There was a point in my life when I didn’t understand why, you could say, my life seemed so "perfect" in so many ways from my loving husband and kids, our home, our community and work opportunities.

I could have never imagined the love and beauty that is in my life now, when I was that scared 15 year old girl that had just been brought to this entire new world called USA without a word of English in her vocabulary… 

Compared to everything I have been through in my life I “Should” feel happy, and yet, I couldn’t find true joy in my heart, and worst of all, if I couldn't find joy in my life, how does that translate to how I’m raising my own kids?!  

What I mean by Joy…

When I mean joy I don’t mean pleasure, that is temporary, like having a couple of glasses of wine, or a delicious chocolate bar.  

What I mean is more of a long term and stable feeling of happiness that guides so much of my life. My actions towards myself and towards others, in a way, I think joy guides our purpose to do more good. 

Joy to me is inside of us no matter what is happening in our lives, we just have to come back to it.  

I don’t mean to say I’m happy all the time, but I truly feel I have a new understanding and a tool to come back to that state, learning what I need as my life evolves. 

The meaning of Happy based on oxford dictionary:

1-Feeling or showing pleasure or contentment 

2-Having a sense of confidence in or satisfaction with (a person, arrangement, or situation)

3-Willing to do something.

For a big chunk of my adult life, I based my happiness on pleasing everyone else except for myself, leaving me clueless as to what made ME happy and unable to ask for what I really want.

I realized there was so much I had to learn and understand about myself, and I’m so grateful for the books and art that guided me into finding my own happiness.
